How the Eagle Lost Its Beak

We, as a nation, need to go through a social, economical, political, transformation.

This transformation applies to us as a nation and as individuals. We’re in the midst of a great opportunity to bring about change. Change is essential to healing for individuals and nations. The trials and tribulations to become strong and healthy are an everyday process. Today, I would like to share with you a tale that describes what’s possible when we dare to transform.

We all know of eagles. Their majestic features, their ferocity, and their hunting power show their strength of character. There is a Native tale that talks about how eagles live up to 70 years, but at the age of 40 are faced with a harsh decision.

In its 40th year, its long and flexible talons can no longer grab prey which serves as food

Its long and sharp beak becomes bent, its old-aged and heavy wings, due to their thick feathers, stick to its chest & make it difficult to fly. Then the eagle is left with only two options: DIE or go through a painful process of CHANGE which lasts 150 days. The process requires that the eagle fly to a mountain top and sit on its nest. There the eagle knocks its beak against a rock until it plucks it out. Then the eagle will wait for a new beak to grow back and then it will pluck out its talons.

When its new talons grow back, the eagle starts plucking its old-aged feathers. And after 5 months, the eagle takes its famous flight of rebirth and lives for 30 more years.

To become the person you really wish to be, you must change. You must recognize the parts within you that need to dissolve, the parts within you that are holding you down, keeping you a prisoner. Once you realize it, the process of letting go can start. You begin to shed parts of yourself and allow new parts to grow. Pain and struggle are part of our transformation, as are victory and liberation.

Like the eagle, we must tear off our worn pieces and begin anew. Once those pieces have been removed, new ideas, habits, and experiences can take their place. Finally from there we’ll be able to fly anew.

This new month marks the beginning of a fresh start. Let this be the year where you let go of what is no longer serving you, and open the door to all the possibilities of fulfillment and peace. I am excited to receive your call so we can get started on this new, refreshing path. I look forward to guiding you to open your heart so that you may receive what life has to offer you.
